Experimental planning for conducting experiments with cucumber Horticultura Brasileira
Lúcio,Alessandro Dal’Col; Lambrecht,Darlei M; Sari,Bruno G; Krysczun,Dionatan K; Ubessi,Cassiane.
ABSTRACT In order to be considered highly reliable (showing very accurate results), an experiment needs to be very well planned. Defining the experimental plot size and number of replicates is fundamental to control the experimental error at the beginning of the experiment. The aim of this study was to estimate the plot size and the number of replicates sufficient to perform experiments with Cucumis sativus. A uniformity trial was installed in the first week of January 2017. The spacing used was 0.3 m between plants and 1 m between rows, resulting in 12 plants in each of the 12 cultivation rows and each basic experimental unit was composed of one plant. The variables observed in 18 harvests were average fruit mass (MMF, in g), average fruit length (CMF, in...

Interference of sample size on multicollinearity diagnosis in path analysis PAB
Sari,Bruno Giacomini; Lúcio,Alessandro Dal’Col; Olivoto,Tiago; Krysczun,Dionatan Ketzer; Tischler,André Luís; Drebes,Lucas.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the interference of sample size on multicollinearity diagnosis in path analysis. From the analyses of productive traits of cherry tomato, two Pearson correlation matrices were obtained, one with severe multicollinearity and the other with weak multicollinearity. Sixty-six sample sizes were designed, and from the amplitude of the bootstrap confidence interval, it was observed that sample size interfered on multicollinearity diagnosis. When sample size was small, the imprecision of the diagnostic criteria estimates interfered with multicollinearity diagnosis in the matrix with weak multicollinearity.

Planning and implementing experiments and analyzing experimental data in vegetable crops: problems and solutions Horticultura Brasileira
Lúcio,Alessandro Dal’Col; Sari,Bruno Giacomini.
ABSTRACT The statistical interpretation of experimental results is inherent to the research process. Therefore, every researcher is expected to have basic understanding on the subject. In vegetable crops, the planning, implementing and data gathering is more complex due to specific aspects related to this group of plants, such as intensive management and high labor requirement to carry out the experiments, uneven fruit maturation and heterogeneity of the experimental area. Since all these factors are sources of variability within the experiment, circumventing them in the experiment planning and implementing phases is fundamental to reduce the experimental error. Furthermore, the knowledge of statistical tests and the assumptions for their use is equally...

Abstract: The objective of this work were to evaluate the population dynamics of the rice stem bug (Tibraca limbativentris) around and in flood irrigated rice cultivation area, to quantify the insect population flow between crops and host plants, and to determine the effect of the species, the diameter of the plant, and the distance of the host plant from the border on the rice stem bug population. The work was conducted in the 2012/2013 harvest and in the off-season, with sampling of rice, Andropogom bicornis, and Andropogon lateralis plants in six cultivated areas, in order to count the number of insects. The population density of the rice stem bug in irrigated rice and alternative host plants presents spatial and temporal dependence. In the cultivated...

ABSTRACT: The objective of this study was to characterize the production of biquinho pepper through the interpretation of parameter estimates from the logistic model and its critical points obtained by the partial derivatives of the function, and to indicate the best cultivar and growing season for subtropical climate sites. For this, a 2x3 factorial experiment was conducted with two cultivars of biquinho pepper (BRS Moema and Airetama biquinho) in three growing seasons (E1: October 2015, E2: November 2015, E3: January 2016). The logistic non-linear model for fruit mass was specified as a function of the accumulated thermal sum, and the critical points were calculated through the partial derivatives of the model, in order to characterize the productive...

Productive variability, border use and plot size in trials with cherry tomato Ciência Rural
Santos,Daniel; Lúcio,Alessandro Dal’Col; Lopes,Sidinei José; Cargnelutti Filho,Alberto; Olivoto,Tiago.
ABSTRACT: Knowing the productive variability within protected environments is crucial for choosing the experimental design to be used in that conditions. Thus, the aim of the present study was to assess the variability of fruit production in protected environment cultivated with cherry tomatoes and to verify the border effect and plot size in reducing this variability. To this, data from an uniformity test carried out in a greenhouse with cherry tomato cv. ‘Lili’ were used. Total fresh mass of fruits per plant was considered being these plants arranged in cropping rows parallel to the lateral openings of the greenhouse and also the same plants arranged in columns perpendicular to these openings. To generate the borders, different scenarios were designed by...

ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to determine the required sample size for estimation of the Pearson coefficient of correlation between cherry tomato variables. Two uniformity tests were set up in a protected environment in the spring/summer of 2014. The observed variables in each plant were mean fruit length, mean fruit width, mean fruit weight, number of bunches, number of fruits per bunch, number of fruits, and total weight of fruits, with calculation of the Pearson correlation matrix between them. Sixty eight sample sizes were planned for one greenhouse and 48 for another, with the initial sample size of 10 plants, and the others were obtained by adding five plants. For each planned sample size, 3000 estimates of the Pearson correlation coefficient...

Tamanho de amostra para determinação da condutividade elétrica individual de sementes de girassol Bragantia
Haesbaert,Fernando Machado; Lopes,Sidinei José; Mertz,Liliane Marcia; Lúcio,Alessandro Dal’Col; Huth,Caroline.

Variability, plot size and border effect in lettuce trials in protected environment Bragantia
Santos,Daniel; Lúcio,Alessandro Dal’Col; Cargnelutti Filho,Alberto; Lopes,Sidinei José; Olivoto,Tiago.
ABSTRACT The variability within rows of cultivation may reduce the accuracy of experiments conducted in a complete randomized block design if the rows are considered as blocks, however, little is known about this variability in protected environments. Thus, our aim was to study the variability of the fresh mass in lettuce shoot, growing in protected environment, and to verify the border effect and size of the experimental unit in minimizing the productive variability. Data from two uniformity trials carried out in a greenhouse in autumn and spring growing seasons were used. In the statistical analyses, it was considered the existence of parallel cultivation rows the lateral openings of the greenhouse and of columns perpendicular to these openings....
